The National Museum of Mongolia is presenting the special exhibition "Mongolian Naadam: The Precious Horse" in celebration of Mongolia's National Naadam Festival and World Horse Day.
In accordance with the resolution adopted at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2025 and Resolution No. 100 of the Government of Mongolia, July 11–13 has been officially designated as World Horse Day, beginning in 2026. This landmark decision marks a significant step in promoting the Mongolian horse and Mongolia's equestrian heritage to the international community.
Through this special exhibition, visitors will discover the rich traditions of the Three Manly Games (Naadam), as well as the unique characteristics of the Mongolian horse and its enduring cultural significance. Since ancient times, the Mongolian people have revered the horse as a symbol of freedom, independence, and national identity.
The exhibition features rare archaeological artifacts that testify to the early domestication and use of horses in Mongolia, including Bronze Age horse bits and cheekpieces, as well as remnants of saddles and bridles dating from the Turkic period and the era of the Mongol Empire.
Also on display are traditional riding equipment such as silver saddles, bridles, stirrups, whips, lassos, and hobbles, together with rare cultural objects associated with horse worship. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore approximately 250 exhibits, including archival documents, photographs, and video materials preserved in the collections of the General Authority for Archives of Mongolia, as well as selected manuscripts on horses from the collections of the Talyn Yazguurtan Foundation.
The "Mongolian Naadam: The Precious Horse" special exhibition will be open to the public from July 8 to August 20, 2026 at the exhibition halls of the National Museum of Mongolia.
